Why Organic Cotton?

As we at FEM intimates have been expanding our Organic Cotton Panties line, we would like to give you an overview on the backround and benifts of Organic Cotton.

Like organic foods 20 years ago, the idea of organic cotton is confusing to many of us. It’s taken a little longer to catch on because the correlation isn’t as direct. We don’t eat cotton fiber (at least we hope you don’t!) However, more people are becoming knowledgeable as to how the organic cotton movement is just as powerful and important as that of organic foods.

What is "organic cotton?"

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

• Organic Cotton is Pure and Natural

• Organic Cotton is grown without harmful pesticides and herbicides.

• Organic cotton can not be grown from genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

GOTS logo

Lots of fashion and textile retailers think it is important that shoppers know how their clothes are made, but sadly many brands spin yarns that hide the truth about their production and working conditions. Unlike food, clothes and textiles can be labelled as organic without being certified. This means that retailers can label items as organic, regardless of organic content. Organic certification is proof that the claims made are backed up. Manufacturers of GOTS-certified cotton must follow a stringent set of rules throughout the supply chain. The supply chain starts with the cotton seeds themselves. Farmers grow the cotton. Mill workers turn the cotton into yarn. Dye house workers bleach the cotton white or dye it the beautiful colors we love. GOTS certification ensures that all workers follow the rules. Testing is performed at each step to ensure the cotton is free of all harmful additives and residues.

Our Organic Cotton Panties at FEM intimates are GOTS certified.
